Qualifications:
Comfort and confidence using and demonstrating basic technology applications and devices (i.e. - smartphones, tablets, laptops).

Overall Purpose:
As a volunteer for the Tech Connect program, reporting to the Program Manager and working under the direction of the Branch Librarian, this volunteer position models BPL's values in all interactions with customers while supporting their technology needs.

The Tech Connect program is facilitated by Programming staff, with volunteers assisting participants during both large and small group instructional sessions by supporting practice activities and enhancing the learning experience.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide tech assistance and support to participants of the Tech Connect program under the leadership of the Program Lead
  • Assist customers with the use of a variety of devices, operating systems, and applications.
  • Commit to consistent attendance at all program sessions to help ensure the program’s effectiveness and continuity.
  • Offer guidance in a way that builds confidence and fosters learning
  • Maintain regular communication with the Program Lead to share feedback and ensure clarity on weekly objectives and tasks
  • Deliver assistance in a patient, respectful, and inclusive manner to create a welcoming learning environment.

  • Knowledge of various operating systems (i.e. - Android, iOS)
  • Knowledge of various applications (i.e. - Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, WhatsApp)
Work Environment
  • Volunteer hours will be completed in library spaces, while customers and library staff are present, with little exposure to noise, dirt, or external elements.
  • Physical work such as moving, changing, and setting up for programs (i.e. - tables and chairs)
  • There is communication via email
Working Hours
  • We are seeking volunteers who are interested in an ongoing commitment with the library through 2026.
  • The Tech Connect program runs in 4-week blocks at a single library branch. Upon completion, the program will be repeated for another 4-week block at a different library branch.
  • Volunteers will be scheduled for a weekly three-hour session during each four-week block, receiving 12 volunteer hours per 4-week block.
